In your daily project,electronics work or electrical work capacitor plays a big role for charging and discharging over time as far the circuit required.So, if a capacitor does not work properly that will effect to the whole circuit and it will not work.
A faulty capacitor will make your circuit from stop working.So today I will discuss about, HOW TO CHECK ,IF A CAPACITOR IS GOOD OR BAD ,SO THAT YOU CAN USE IT IN YOUR CIRCUIT.
There is 2 Type of capacitors :
1.Polar Capacitor
2.Non-Polar Capacitor
Firstly, to check Polar capacitor using multimeter switch on the Multimeter & set the multimeter in Resistance 20K and touch the positive lead(Red) of multimeter with +lead of capacitor(larger leg )
and negative lead of multimeter ( black one) with the negative leg of capacitor( negative printed on capacitor side/smaller leg) , follow the multimeter reading that it changes ita value to something and goes to 1.That means your capacitor is charged properly and now disconnect the capacitor and set multimeter to the DC voltage range ( according to the volt print on capacitor body) now connect the leads as before.You will.now see that the voltage is decreasing slowing, i.e. capacitor is discharging properly.Thiss Shows that the capacitor is properly working and it is ok.If not,then that one is faulty capacitor and have to replace it.
[ N.B. If capacitor is on pcb then it may behave abruptly ,so better to remove from PCB or circuit]
Secondly,to check Nonpolar capacitor there is no pole.So set the multimeter to 20k resistance and connect the capacitor as you want( as no pole) you will see that there is no change and multimeter is showing 1 continously and now disconnect the capacitor and set the multimeter to DC voltage and will see there is no discharging and multimeter is showing continuously 1.You can reverse the leads with multimeter,if it shows the same reading then the capacitor is working properly or its good one,either its the faulty one.
